The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy
Rematched them both this weekend with the girlfriend. Bourne Identity continues to be one of my favourite films. Matt Damon is hella compelling and I love it’s set in Europe. Love love love. Not just a country but a continent. It provides such a variety of backdrops and none of them become postcards. They also have their own feel and flavor. We don’t see a massive chase around the Effiel Tower for instance. Which is the Bourne series all over. In Bond there are massive events that’s would attract and hurt the public. Not in Bourne. Well except for the car chase maybe.
I’ve always has a problem with Supremacy. I thing it’s partly because it’s coming off the back of one of my favourite films but there’s something else. The story never gels for me. Brian Cox’s character fills in the blanks and offs himself 30 minutes before the film ends. It’s just odd.
I was reminded about just how dramatic the car chase at the end was though. There is a real sense of peril and struggle you don’t see often. It’s more of a fight scene using cars than a chase. Sure Bourne is trying to escape but he doesn’t really have anywhere to go. His reason to escape is more about retreating to regroup.
We’ll get round to watching Ultimatum soon. It’s her first time seeing these films. Shocker I know.
